Donnie &  Chad Gentry

Our Story

Our story begins way back in 1969, when Donnie Gentry began his journey in education.  At the time, he was newly married to his childhood sweetheart and excited about the future that they would build together.  Since then, their story continues to be written as they've experienced all that life has to offer along the way.  Donnie's career in education spanned 33 years.  During those years he was exposed to every facet of the educational process, from driving a bus, to teaching, to being a campus principal and ultimately being named Superintendent of Tyler ISD until he retired in 2002.  Upon retiring, he joined his son, Chad, in the financial services and insurance business.  In 2007, they felt a calling to start their own agency, which opened the doors of Gentry Financial Group in July of that year. 


Donnie's passion to help those in the profession is the driving force behind our business practice and the reason why those who work with us have a unique advantage. He knows from experience that having a sound financial plan can directly impact a teacher's performance in their classroom.

Since our inception, GFG has expanded its staff to better serve our clients.  Another bonus that our clients appreciate is that our office manager, Deborah Walker, is a former school business manager with over 25 years experience in school finance.  The calls she gets on a daily basis from our school districts are the exact same in nature she has dealt with her entire career!  Due to the fact that we are a company founded and driven by educators, we understand the challenges that come with the profession and have a better appreciation for the job.  We realize there is nothing more important in a community than what happens Monday through Friday of every week at the school district level.
