The flexible spending account is an IRS Code Section 125 Cafeteria Plan that
enables employees to pay for eligible expenses on a pre-tax basis. This is
available for medical expenses and dependent day care expenses.
Employees place funds in a predetermined benefit amount through salary
reduction. When a qualified expense is incurred, the employee submits a
request and receives reimbursement. With on-line administration and
submission of Requests for Reimbursement, daily check processing, and direct
deposit, refunds are usually received very quickly.
The maximum annual deduction for health care expenses is $2400. Eligible
medical expenses include any unreimbursed costs such as doctor copays,
prescription and over the counter drugs, dental charges, vision expenses and
chiropractic fees.
The maximum dependent day care reimbursement is $5000.
